Post-Operative Instructions:

The days and weeks after surgery are very crucial for patient recovery. As a hair transplant is a delicate procedure, following post-operative care by the surgeon is very important. Dos

• Take care of the implanted area as per the surgeon's instructions and follow the post-op care routine
• Finish the course of antibiotics and use pain medications that are prescribed
• Keep an eye on the infections and notify the doctor if one notices signs of a developing infection
• To avoid excessive bleeding or edema, the patient should avoid bending over or lifting for at least 48 hours after surgery. During this period, keep the head and upper body elevated above the level of the heart, mainly while sleeping.
• For the first 3 to 4 days, the patient should sleep with their head and upper body lifted on numerous pillows. It will keep their forehead from bulging. Sleeping on a lazy-boy chair for 48 hours with the head and upper body is also helpful.
• For 48 hours after surgery, do not wash or disturb the grafts. Afterward, wash the hair by lathering the shampoo on your fingertips and lightly applying it to the grafted and donor areas. Rinse with cool water using gentle pressure. These measures must be followed for 5 days following the surgical procedure. Regular shampooing can then be resumed.
• After the shower, applying mild pressure to the grafts with a towel or gauze pad is suggested. It absorbs any blood that has accumulated on or around the transplant sites.
• Graftcyte should be sprayed over the grafted area 4-6 times daily for at least the first week after surgery. It fastens the healing process. This product is also suitable for use in the donor area.

Don’ts

• Alcoholic drinks should not be consumed for three days after the surgical procedure. Alcohol may dilute the blood and induce bleeding.
• Take no vitamins, asp-irin, ibupr-ofen, or arthritis medication for at least 2-3 weeks after the procedure. These drugs thin the blood and may cause excessive bleeding.
• Running, cycling, weight lifting, and sports like soccer, baseball, and golf should be avoided for at least three days following the surgical treatment. These activities may result in bleeding, graft loss, and swelling around the eyes and forehead. For one week following surgery, vigorous physical exercise should be avoided.
• Scabs form at the graft sites within 24 to 72 hours of surgery and fall off in 3–10 days. Picking or scratching the scabs might induce infection and jeopardise the grafts' viability. If the scabbing lasts more than 14 days, one may not be shampooing strongly enough. Remember that the critical period following surgery is 5 days. During this period, precautions should be taken when shampooing.
• Swimming in chlorine-containing water is not suggested and should be avoided for at least seven days after surgery.
